Academic Support Center


The Academic Support Center exists to support all Florida SouthWestern students in achieving their academic goals. The Center offers a variety of services and technologies for students, including tutoring, specialized software, multimedia programs, general computer access, testing preparation materials, group study, prep class support, and more.

The Academic Support Center is about achieving YOUR academic goals.

We support all Florida SouthWestern students who need assistance in any of their courses - Math, Science, Reading, Accounting, English, etc.  Come by at any time and we’ll try our best to help you find solutions to your learning needs. 

Being successful depends on setting a goal to do your very best every day.  We welcome you to come by and see how we can help you achieve that goal!

SERVICES

  • Math Center

Drop-in help in college level coursework including college algebra, trig, calculus and statistics is available at the center during the operating hours. Some subjects, such as statistics and calculus require specific expertise from our Instructional Assistants. For these subjects, call 239-732-3773 for availability.

  • Writing Center

Drop-in help for Composition (ENC1101 and ENC 1102) classes is available for most hours of operation. Appointments are also available. Call 239-732-3773 for times or for initial appointments.

  • Computing Center

Computer assistance for the basic computer classes (CSG 1100 ) is available most nights. Call for hours, 239-732-3773.

  • Accounting Center

Help in Accounting 1, 2 and 3 is available nights and Saturdays.  Call 239-732-3773 for times.

  • COLLEGE PLACEMENT TEST (PERT)

    Resources are available to help with practicing for the college placement test (PERT). These resources include tutors, computer programs, and study packets. PERT remediation workshops are given Thursdays at 6pm, Fridays at 9 am, and by special appointment.


  • ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES  (EAP)

    Assistance with these classes is provided in the Academic Support Center in the form of tutoring, lab-work evaluation and computer programs. 

  • TUTORING
    Instructional Assistants are always available to help with math and writing related courses; however, tutoring for specialized courses is offered at specific times. Call or stop by the lab to get a current schedule of times.  Tutoring services are free of charge.

Can I get help with College Algebra, or even Statistics?

Yes, the Center has math teachers and tutors to help you with courses such as College Algebra, Statistics, even Calculus. Just call (239-732-3773) or drop by for times and availability.

Can I get help with my college papers?

Yes, highly qualified writing specialists are available at most times. Just come by or call for an appointment (239-732-3773).

Will the Academic Support Center help me get into and succeed in the nursing program or other medical programs?

Definitely! Medical programs like nursing and radiology require top grades in all subjects, including Composition I, College Algebra, and especially Biology courses such as Anatomy and Physiology. Besides our writing and math teachers and tutors, we have biology tutors who will help you excel in these vital prerequisite courses.

Can I get help in my other subjects such as Psychology or Spanish?

Yes, our tutors come from a variety of backgrounds and can help in every subject that Florida SouthWestern offers. We can look over your papers or help you study for your test.
