What is an internship/clinical placement?
An internship/clinical placement is a worksite learning opportunity. This is your chance to get hands-on experience in a particular field that you have chosen as a career path. An internship/ clinical placement can:
- Build your resume
- Help you solidify your choice of a career
- Allow you to apply classroom learning to real life situations
Your internship/clinical placement will be a new and expanded learning experience. It should allow you to do work differently from what you have already done or are currently doing. It will be directly related to your major and career goal.
An internship should not be thought of as a job. Most internships are unpaid and designed simply to give you career related work experience. Pay is not the primary motivation of an internship.
Clinical placements may be part of your required program of study. It will occur after you have gained related knowledge in the classroom and allow you to practice your field of study under the supervision of faculty and clinical professors.
