Florida SouthWestern State College Writing Contest Winners Named

Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) Charlotte campus announced that four students won the annual Serendipity Writing Contest. This year, there were nearly 60 entries.  This contest is supported by Drs. Margaret and Rene Desjardins who champion and promote creative writing on the Charlotte campus of Florida Southwestern State College.

“We are very proud of our students, and we recognize the skills and talents on our campus,” said Natala Orobello, FSW professor.  “I look forward to this event and enjoy coordinating it for the campus.  The entries this year were excellent, and it was a tough decision to select winners. We hope to continue this tradition for many years to come!”

Each of the four recipients read their entry to attendees before enjoying a reception.  The poem category recipients include:  Ana Gregoria in first place for her poem, “Youth From Hawara,” and Won Jaegal in second place for her poem, “The Bird on Our Front Yard,”  Winners for the short story category were Lee Ann Hartiman’s, “The Boy and His Compass” in first place and Courtney Clouser’s,  “Just Another Day in Paradise” in second place.

Florida SouthWestern State College is Southwest Florida’s largest and one of the most affordable institutions of higher education. Annually serving more than 22,000 students globally, FSW offers a variety of nationally-ranked, career-focused academic programs with two- and four-year degrees, and professional certifications. Students are also active in clubs and programs catered to their interests. FSW will debut its intercollegiate athletics program in the fall 2015.
