Mar 16, 2015

MARCH 16, 2015 – PUNTA GORDA, FLA. – Florida SouthWestern State College’s (FSW) Charlotte Campus will hold a special presentation by Holocaust survivor Max Weisglass at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, in the Charlotte Campus auditorium, 6300 Airport Road, Punta Gorda. The event is free and open to the public.

Weisglass will tell his story of hiding in an underground bunker for 10 months after escaping from a Polish ghetto with his parents. Following his liberation by the Russians, he remained in Poland for a time before escaping Russian rule. He then went to West Germany and Canada before immigrating to the United States.  He and his wife, Anita, have lived in Punta Gorda for 16 years.

The presentation is part of Dr. Talbot Spivak Holocaust Memorial Week, March 23-27. The week is named in memory of the late FSW Professor Dr. Talbot Spivak, whose determination to teach the lessons of the Holocaust both inside and outside the classroom led him to create this week-long program with college-wide support in 1996.
