Jun 17, 2015

Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) Athletic Director Carl McAloose has named George Sanders the college’s Assistant Athletic Director/Sports Medicine and Compliance. He will join FSW July 16, 2015.

His responsibilities include overseeing the health and well-being of the FSW Buccaneers student-athletes, in addition to overseeing and ensuring program compliance.

“We are so happy to have George join our staff.  Very few people in the country have the outstanding combination of skills he has within the fields of sports medicine and compliance,” said McAloose. “His experiences as a Director of Athletics, Director of Sports Medicine, and NJCAA Commissioner will make him so valuable to FSW in starting back our athletics program.  It is amazing to me that we continue to attract such talent within our department, which bodes very well for our student-athletes and the future of FSW athletics.”

“This is a great opportunity to be part of the rebirth of Buccaneer athletics and to help lay the foundation for a storied program,” said Sanders. “The combination of my being a trainer by trade and an assistant AD for compliance is a great mix. The emphasis will be for excellence both on the field and in the classroom for our student-athletes.”

Sanders brings more than 25 years of expertise as both an Athletic Director and with program compliance. He joined Florida State College Jacksonville (FSCJ) as Athletic Director in 2005. During his tenure, three teams have advanced to NJCAA National Championships: softball (2009), tennis (2008-11) and volleyball (2010). Prior to FSCJ, he spent 18 years at Manatee Community College. During his time at MCC he served as a professional assistant in the health and physical education department, head athletic trainer and a full-time faculty member. He was named as the full-time athletic director in 1994.

Sanders, a Tennessee native, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in health, physical education and recreation from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn. He then earned his Master of Education degree in physical education from the University of Georgia.

Sanders is an active member of both state and national organizations in athletic training (NATA and ATAF), the Florida College System Activities Association and the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) is bringing back a longstanding tradition of athletics. Baseball and Softball will begin in the fall 2015 at the City of Palms Park in Fort Myers. Located on the Thomas Edison (Lee) Campus in Fort Myers will be the Suncoast Credit Union Arena, where FSW’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will play in the fall 2016. FSW will compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). For more information, visit www.FSWBUCS.com.
