Keep an open mind. College is not only about learning and pursuing a degree in your field of choice, it’s also about challenging your own ideas and beliefs to help you grow as a full well-rounded individual.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
I enjoy visiting many different spots on campus but my favorite would have to be the Bob Rauschenberg Art Gallery. The gallery hosts different exhibits throughout the year to allow a variety of artists to showcase their artwork. It’s really interesting to learn about the history of the artist and what inspired their work.

What advice would you give a student to help as they apply to college?
Visit. Visit. Visit. The most important advice that I give students is to visit any campus you are considering. Sometimes this can be difficult if the college is a far distance or out-of-state, but if at all possible, try to do a campus visit or attend an on-campus event like an Open House.
What advice would you give a student to help them navigate college?
Hang in there. College can be very overwhelming at first. I went to college about five hours away from home and I was very homesick. Luckily I stuck it out, made some really great friends and received encouragement from my professors. My college experience turned out to be one of the best of my life!
What is your favorite spot on campus?
Our Inspiration Garden outside of the Rush Library. I love to see students eating lunch by the Koi fish pond or an art class painting outside by the fountain for inspiration.
What do you enjoy most about Florida SouthWestern State College?
I love higher education and helping students. I had previously worked as an Admissions Counselor at a private women’s college, so when I relocated to Southwest Florida, I knew I wanted to stay in the field.
Describe your favorite thing to do in Southwest Florida.
Growing up in the mid-west, this region was always our vacation spot of choice, and now I get to live here! I love the temperature in January and February; so much better than ice and snow.
What are your hobbies, interests or community involvement?
Being a student again, most of my current free time is spent doing homework. I really enjoy anything outside: laying by the pool, going to the beach or taking a scenic drive and exploring the surrounding area. Cooking, baking, coffee and makeup are some of my favorite things, and I also really enjoy traveling and experiencing new places and things!
