Professor Dennis Hill Honored with Named Scholarship

Oct 31, 2007

Dr. Dennis Hill, Professor of Music at Edison College and conductor of the Edison POPS Orchestra, was honored by the Edison College Foundation, Inc. at the 5th annual POPS @ Sunset concert last Saturday evening with an endowed scholarship to be awarded annually in his name.

"I am honored and thrilled," said Hill following the surprise announcement.

Hill has taught 41 years in public education and was instrumental in founding the music program at Edison College. In his 32 year tenure at Edison, he conducted over 200 free concerts for the community. When the Foundation wished to replicate the successful Charlotte Campus POPS @ Sunset concert at the Lee Campus five years ago, Hill stepped forward to assemble and lead the POPS orchestra and accompany the five concert headliners - Al Holland, The Platters, Don McLean, The Lettermen, and Mary Wilson of The Supremes.

Proceeds from the concerts have funded the $350,000 Edison POPS Chair for Academic Advancement. The Dennis Hill Music Scholarship will be awarded each year to a deserving Lee Campus student majoring in music.

Edison College POPS concerts are presented each October. Information may be obtained at www.edisonpops.com.
