Financial Aid for College – Free Application Advice

Edison State College to host College Goal Sunday Experts 

One of the biggest hurdles in pursuing a college education is finding the money. Navigating the financial aid process, especially for first time applicants, can be challenging.

Edison State College has invited financial aid experts from the nationally renowned group, College Goal Sunday, to remedy this problem. They will be on campus to offer students and families the advice and support they need to complete the financial aid application process successfully.  

College Goal Sunday is a volunteer program that provides free information and assistance to students and families who are applying for financial aid for post secondary education. College Goal Sunday brings together financial aid professionals from colleges and universities along with other volunteers to help college-bound students and their families complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

Where: Edison State College Lee Campus, 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers. Welcome and registration will be held on the first floor of Taeni Hall, Building S.

When: Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 (Yes, College Goal Sunday is on a Saturday) from 9:30 a.m.  to 12:30 p.m.

Before you arrive: Get your FAFSA PIN by clicking on the link>>: http://www.pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/pinindex.jsp.  (If you do not have computer access, we will help you complete this step at the event.)

What you need to bring: Students and parents should bring their 2011 Internal Revenue Service tax returns, W-2 Forms or other relevant 2011 income information.  If you haven't finalized your taxes, bring the information you have from 2010 and the form can be updated later. Also, it is helpful to bring:

·         Social Security number

  • 2011 bank statement
  • Driver’s license or alien registration card
  • Business-investment and mortgage information for 2011
  • Untaxed-income records for 2011 such as Social Security, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, and welfare.
