Feb 26, 2013

Florida Governor Rick Scott announced the appointment Tristan “Tris” Chapman and the reappointment of Julia Perry to serve on Edison State College’s Board of Trustees. Both of the appointments are effective immediately and continue through May 22, 2016. The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

“We welcome Mr. Chapman to our Board of Trustees and we appreciate the continued service of Mrs. Perry,” said Dr. Jeff Allbritten, President, Edison State College. “They both offer a wealth of experience and will represent their counties well.”

Mr. Chapman, who is not related to fellow Trustee Brian Chapman, represents Hendry County. He succeeds Dr. Randall Parrish, who did not seek reappointment.

“Dr. Parrish has given generously of his time, energy and expertise since his appointment in 2006 and we appreciate all he has done for the college,” added Dr. Allbritten.

Mrs. Julia Perry joined the Board of Trustees in 2002 and has been reappointed to continue serving. A retired school librarian, she represents Glades County.

“We appreciate that Mrs. Perry is willing to continue serving Edison State College,” said Dr. Allbritten. “Her love of the college, its students and the communities we serve has been reflected in her enthusiastic support since the day she joined the board.”

The newest member of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Chapman is Vice President and General Manager of Southern Gardens Citrus. Prior to joining Southern Gardens, he was an executive with Tropicana for over 20 years.  He earned his bachelor’s degree and MBA from the University of South Florida. Chapman serves on the Hendry County Development Council’s Education Task Force.  He has served as Chairman of the Hendry County Board of County Commissioners, on the Florida Citrus Commission, as President of  Florida Citrus Processors Association, the Hendry-Glades Leadership Board, and as a board member of Hendry County’s two regional planning organizations, Florida’s Heartland Regional Development Initiative (FHREDI) and the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council (SWFRPC).
