The Edison State College District Board of Trustees today unanimously approved a contract to hire Carl McAloose as the college’s Director, Intercollegiate Athletics.

“This is a great day in our history as we take the next step in bringing athletics back to the college,” said Dr. Jeff Allbritten, President, Edison State College. “Carl brings a wealth of experience in not only building an athletics program, but also taking it to the next level. All of us are excited about the prospect of cheering for our Buccaneers starting in the fall 2015.”

McAloose, who officially begins at Edison State on Monday, Feb. 17, is tasked with bringing back the Buccaneers athletics program, which was discontinued in 1997.

“I’m pleased to be returning to Southwest Florida, and for the opportunity to build an athletics program that will be a source of pride for the students, faculty, staff, administrators and for the communities we serve. I thank Dr. Allbritten for having confidence in me and I’m looking forward to working with everyone at Edison State College,” said McAloose. “There is nothing more gratifying than building a program that encourages excellence in the classroom and on the court or field.”

In his role, McAloose’s responsibilities include building the athletic department, from coaches and staffing, establishing policies and procedures, securing facilities for practices and competition and generating schedules. He will also play a role in fundraising efforts in conjunction with the Edison State College Foundation.

“Carl was impressive throughout the interview process,” said Dr. Jeff Stewart, Vice President, Research and Accountability, and Chair of the Search Committee, Edison State College. “We are confident that his experience and capabilities are what we need to begin a new tradition of success for the Buccaneers.”

McAloose’s career spans 30 years, including positions as a Sports Information Director, Coach, Assistant Athletic Director, an associate commissioner and a commissioner for an athletic conference. He has been the Director of Athletics at Clayton State University, Morrow, Georgia since 2012. He is the President/CEO of Athletics Staffing and Consultants, Fort Myers, Fla. Prior to that, he was the Director of Athletics for Florida Gulf Coast University from 2000 through 2008.

Celebrating over 50 years of excellence, Edison State College is Southwest Florida’s largest, most accessible and ranked nationally as one of the most affordable institutions of higher education. Serving more than 22,000 students per year regionally, nationally, and internationally, students are also active in a wide variety of clubs and programs that cater to their interests. Nationally, Edison State is ranked 45th among associate degree producers and 26th for its prestigious associate producing Nursing program.
