Faculty and Staff Receive NISOD Awards

Feb 14, 2014

FEBRUARY 14, 2014 – FORT MYERS, FLA. – Two members of the Edison State College faculty and staff have been named winners of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Award. The two winners are Dana Roes, art professor, Edison State College, and Debra Kelly, executive assistant, Academic Affairs.

“It is proof of the quality of education and service Edison State College provides when our faculty and staff members are recognized nationally for their dedication to their professions and students,” said Dr. Jeff Allbritten, president, Edison State College. “We are proud to have Professor Dana Roes and Deb Kelly represent the college.”

Edison State College faculty, student and staff nominate fellow professors and staff for this award. Nominations are based on teaching and learning practices that encourage student achievement. The nominations are then sent to NISOD. Winners are honored in May during NISOD’s International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence.

"Every year, we receive dozens of nominations from students, faculty, and staff identifying the members of our Edison State community who excel at teaching, learning, and leadership,” said Dr. Catherine Wilkins, department chair, Edison State College School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. “For the first time, NISOD opened nominations to outstanding staff members, as well as faculty, who make a meaningful contribution to the life of the college.  Determining the NISOD winners is always a difficult decision, as all the nominees are worthy of recognition, but the strength of the nominations for Professor Roes and Ms. Kelly garnered the most votes from our committee members."

“Deb Kelly has worked for the college for over six years and has come to be known as the ‘go to’ person in Academic Affairs,” said Dr. Denis G. Wright, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Edison State College. “Others rely on her assistance with budget, purchasing, scheduling, and student support issues.  Deb is always available to help others and does so with a smile on her face.”

“Dana Roes has been a full-time professor of art for five years,” Dr. Wright said. “She works closely with her art students and through teaching, encouragement and coaching has brought their talents to superior levels. Her extensive contributions through student art shows and community outreach make her a model faculty member.”
