Green Building Certification Prep at Edison College

Apr 21, 2008

The U.S. Green Building Council, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, will be offering a review session and study group at Edison College's Fort Myers campus to prepare architects, engineers, interior designers, landscape architects, facility managers, construction managers, real estate professionals and anyone else interested in passing the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design [LEED] AP exam. This will be the first time that these courses have been offered in Southwest Florida.

LEED is a third party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools necessary to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings' performance. It promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

The LEED Accredited Professionals program is administered by the Green Building Certification Institute [GBCI], which was established with the support of USGBC to allow for objective, balanced management of the credentialing program.

The review consists of three sessions scheduled on Tuesday evenings in Taeni Hall, Room S117 on May 6, 13 and 20 from 6:00 pm till 9:00 pm. The courses will be taught by LEED Accredited Professionals. Space is limited to 60 people. For questions on cost and registration, please visit the USGBC, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter website at http://fgcc.roundtablelive.org or contact Colleen Mackin at cmackin@tampabayrr.com or Professor Albert Dambrose at adambrose@edison.edu.
