Apr 20, 2006

The Florida Department of Education has honored two Edison College students by naming them to the 2006 All-Florida Academic Team. Tamara Paquette of Naples Collier Campus is among 30 students from across the state named to the 1st Team. Samantha Jean of Port Charlotte Charlotte Campus is one of 82 outstanding students named to the 2nd Team.

The 112 students were nominated for their academic excellence by their public and private community colleges as part of the 2006 All–USA Community and Junior College Academic Team program. The team members received Phi Theta Kappa medallions at an event in Tallahassee in early April.

“I congratulate Ms. Paquette and Ms. Jean on their academic achievements and leadership abilities which led to this distinction, said Edison College District President Kenneth P. Walker.

The All-USA Academic Team for Community Colleges competition is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa PTK , the American Association of Community Colleges and USA TODAY to recognize scholarly achievements and leadership accomplishments of students enrolled in community, technical and junior colleges. In nominating students, community colleges considered outstanding grade point averages; participation in honors programs; and awards, honors and recognition for academic achievement and service to the college and the community.

Paquette is President of the PTK Chapter in Collier County and a member of the multi-cultural club. Jean is a PTK member and a HOPE Scholar and will be graduating in May.
