2006 Shoes For Kids Drive

Jun 26, 2006

This is the 3rd year Edison has sponsored the Shoes for Kids Project. The 2006 drive is spearheaded by Christy Smith and is joined this year by the Port Charlotte Sunrise Kiwanis Club as a co-sponsor.

Columnist Brian Gleason of the Charlotte Sun highlighted the drive in his column today and information has been sent to both the Charlotte Sun and the Herald Tribune listing the 48 collection sites throughout Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte and Englewood.

If you would like a list of the sites so you can inform family and friends who might not see them in the papers, please let myself or Christy Smith christyksmith@comcast.net know and we will be glad to send it to you.

The need is for 3,500 pairs of new sneakers for the school children of Charlotte County preschool, elementary, middle and high schools . The collection time is from Sunday, July 2 - Sunday, July 23, 20906. The shoes will be distributed at the start of the new school year in August.

Location bins will be available at the Edison College Charlotte Campus in the Student Services Admission area and througout the county at churches, newspapers, temples, county offices, banks, etc. Please watch for a list of sites in your local media.

We hope you will mark your calendars and tell your friends about this worthwhile project to benefit the children of Charlotte County.
