Edison College Concert Band free concert on April 18

The Edison College Concert Band presents its annual spring concert on Wednesday, April 18 at 8 p.m. in the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall. The band will perform a program of traditional marches, overtures and show tunes. Among the marches on the program will be "Riders for the Flag" by John Phillip Sousa and the "Midway March" by John Williams. Other works will include "A Tribute to Canterbury" by Gordon Jacob and "Oberon Overture" by Carl Maria Von Weber, transcribed for band by Mark Hindsley.

Featured soloists for this concert include euphoniumist Kevin Devitt performing "Rhapsody for Euphonium" and "Concert Band" by Jim Curnow. "A Tribute to Harry James" will feature members of the trumpet section.

The 60-member concert band is directed by Dr. Dennis Hill and is made up of Edison College music majors, other Edison students, area high school students who take early college classes at Edison College, and community members from Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Hendry and Glades counties.
