Charlotte campus holds early registration event

Jun 4, 2007

It’s early bird registration time at Edison College's Charlotte campus.

We’ve all heard the old saying, “The early bird catches the worm.”

At the Charlotte campus of Edison College, the early bird catches something much better than a worm — personal attention and first pick of fall 2007 semester courses.

On June 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Charlotte campus will host its “Early Bird Registration” program. Recent high school graduates and their parents, as well as others in the community who have questions or need assistance preparing for college, are invited to attend this event.

Enjoy lunch on us and do everything you need to become an Edison College student all in one day — submit your admission application, take the college placement test if necessary, speak with an academic adviser, register for your classes, and attend sessions on financial aid, college survival and much more.

The “Funding Your Education Beyond High School” workshop will be a brief overview of the financial aid process, including Florida Bright Futures, FAFSA, Florida Prepaid College, Pell Grants, scholarships and student loans.

At “How to Survive College — A Student Panel,” students will discuss their college experiences, which include balancing school with life and work, study strategies, registering for classes and how to make friends and establish contacts on campus. This forum will also provide an opportunity for prospective students and parents to ask questions.

You know you want a college education but you aren’t sure about a major or a career? Find out how Edison College Career Services can make your decision easier at the “O.K. I’m Registered, Now what?” workshop. Student clubs and organizations, peer tutoring services and the Student Academic Success Program will also be highlighted during this session.

The workshop titled “First Day of School” will provide attendees with an idea of what the first day of classes will be like in college. Faculty in the “mock classroom” will provide students with a syllabus, expectations, and goals for the class.

The “Health Programs Showcase” workshop will provide attendees with the opportunity to learn more about the health programs Edison College has to offer including cardiovascular technology, dental hygiene, nursing RN, opticianry, physical therapy assistant, radiologic technology, and respiratory care technology.

RSVP for this “Early Bird” event by Wednesday, June 6, by calling 941-637-5603 or by email at cgilfert@edison.edu.

With fall classes scheduled to start on Aug. 23, staff and faculty members at the Charlotte campus are encouraging all current and future students to register for classes early. Our Student Services Department staff is ready and willing to help anyone who has a question or needs assistance with preparing for and entering college. They welcome your calls at 941-637-5629 or emails to the director of student services at alawes@edison.edu.
