All ESC Students are Invited to Enter 9/11 Essay Contest

Sep 2, 2010

Students at all campuses of ESC are invited to enter the “Considering the Legacy of 9/11 Edison State College Student Essay Contest” sponsored by the Peace River Center for Writers (PRCW) at Edison State College. The student with the winning essay will receive a $50 gift card and will have the opportunity to read his or her essay at PRCW’s Autumn Equinox - Equinozio di Autunno Festival, its awards banquet and fund raiser to be held in the Charlotte campus auditorium on October 2.  In addition, the winning essay will be featured in both the PRCW newsletter and the 2011 Edison State College Charlotte campus magazine of art and literature, Reflections.

Students are asked to share their thoughts in writing as a way to help others remember and to honor those who have given the most anyone can give. Help consider the legacy of that day. There is no entry fee for the Reflective style essay which should be an introspection of how 9/11 affected you and how it changed your life.  Using an appropriate title, the essay should be 500-800 words in length using Times New Roman, 12 point, (or Calibri 11 point) and be double-spaced with one-inch margins.  Use MLA documentation if needed.

All essays must be sent electronically to Charlotte campus Professor John Pelot at jpelot@edison.edu by midnight September 21.  A separate email referencing the Essay Contest must be sent to Charlotte campus Professor Natala Orobello at norobello@edison.edu listing the title of the essay, the student’s name, Edison student id number and all contact information.  The winner will be notified by e-mail or a phone call by October 1.
