Conference on Immigration to be held at Edison State College: "State of Latinos: Immigration – I Too Am America"

Edison State College Lee Campus will host a conference on immigration entitled: "State of Latinos: Immigration – I Too Am America" on October 21. The groundbreaking conference is presented by Grupo Salinas and Azteca America through its non-profit arm Fundacion Azteca America.

The Media and public are invited to attend. "State of Latinos: Immigration – I Too Am America" presented by Azteca America and Grupo Salinas. October 21st, 2010 from 9:00am- 1:00pm. “Edison State College Lee Campus is privileged to be the site of such an important and timely discussion,” said Dr. James Martin, Edison State College Lee Campus President.” The conference discusses immigration which is the basis of the foundation of our country. We are all immigrants or descendents of immigrants. Edison State is thrilled to have the Hispanic community on our campus.”

The conference will include the presentation of a white paper on immigration written by the University of Denver Latino Center For Community Engagement and Scholarship, an overview of the immigration issue in Florida, an examination of religious and cultural trends related to immigration, and the topic of activism and community empowerment as it relates to the Latino community. The event will also include a talk on government approaches and political realities of the immigration issue.

"State of Latinos: Truth in Immigration" is a one of several initiatives supported by Fundacion Azteca America to foment dialog regarding comprehensive immigration reform.

 “We at Edison State College are always open to listen what our community needs and we are hosting this event with the purpose to bring more awareness and education on this topic to Southwest Florida”, Alvaro Dufflar, Hispanic Outreach Specialist for Edison State College. Students from the Lee Campus LASA (Latin American Student Association) will serve as ushers for the event.
