New Concert dates for Music Program

 Enjoy a Series of Outstanding Concerts by the Edison State College Music Program

Edison State College has an incredible music program that produces several outstanding musical groups. Edison State College will host several free concerts for the public in December. Check out the schedule:

December 6, 2010; 7:30 PM, Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall; Free Admission:

Edison State College Symphony Orchestra and Edison State College Choir Combined Concert.

The Edison State College Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Thomas Smith, will perform an exciting program of some of the best loved Orchestral works ever written.  Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 will open the concert; followed by the beautiful Meditation from Thais by Massenet, featuring student solo violinist, Becca Sherman.  The Orchestra’s final offering will be the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, by Edvard Grieg, including Prelude, Anitra’s Dance, and In the Hall of the Mountain King.

Under the Direction of Candace Baranowski-Sundby, and accompanied by Mary Griffin-Seal, the Edison State College Choir will be performing works for this Holiday Concert by Samuel Barber: Sure On This Shining Night (in honor of his 100th birthday).  Two German Carols by Ehret; Hanerot Halalu; Antiphonal Noel (with Brass Accompaniment); and the joyous North Pole Rock and Roll will round out the program.

Edison State College Concert Band, Director, Dr. Tom Smith

The Edison State College Concert Band’s Fall Concert will be an exciting mix of classic Band and Wind Ensemble favorites.   Included on the program will be:  Clifton Williams’ Fiesta, Symphonic Dance No.3; Haydn Wood’s Manx Tone Poem, Mannin Veen; Alfred Reed’s First Suite for Band; and a medley of Dave Brubeck tunes from his famous Time Out album, including: Take Five, Blue Rondo ala Turk, and Unsquare Dance; plus much more.  If you are a fan of great American Band Music, this is an experience that should not be missed.  This talented group carries on the tradition of the classic American Wind Band and delivers it with a twenty-first century performance.

Edison State College Jazz Ensemble, Director, Dr. Tom Smith

The Edison State College Jazz Ensemble has an exciting concert scheduled for their end of semester event.  This 20 piece Jazz Big Band, comprised of some of the finest musicians in the region, will be swingin’ the night away as they perform both new and traditional Big Band jazz.  Featured on the program will be works by Count Basie; Charlie Parker; Frank Mantooth; Horace Silver; fusion guitar legend, Pat Matheny; and many more, including a tribute to Jazz vocalist, Ella Fitzgerald, and her first Hit with the Chick Webb Band: A Tisket, A Tasket.
