EDISON STATE COLLEGE OFFERS BUSINESS WORKSHOPS TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

Edison State College Center for Business and Entrepreneurship Provides Services to Small Businesses through a Series of Educational Workshops in Cape Coral.

Small businesses in Lee County are facing challenging times.  Edison State College is launching the Center for Business and Entrepreneurship to provide services to the local business community.    Businesses have the opportunity to start the New Year off right by taking advantage of the “Taking Care of Business” workshop series beginning in January 2011.  The first two workshops will be held at the Cape Coral Community Redevelopment Agency (1231 Cape Coral Parkway East in the Big John’s Shopping Center).  They are directed to the Small Business community in Cape Coral and the surrounding Lee County area.  Edison State College Center for Business and Entrepreneurship strives to serve the community by offering continuing education, professional development and certificate programs.

“Taking Care of Business” is the theme of the first workshop offered through the Center for Business and Entrepreneurship.  The workshops in this series will have seven 90 minute sessions each with a different topic and will take place at a convenient time for working professionals.  The workshops in this series focus on the skills needed to start a business, “Is a Small Business Right for Me?” “Improve your existing Small Business,” “Obtain a Competitive Advantage.” The cost is $20 for each workshop and participants have the opportunity to attend one or all of the sessions.

“I have a better understanding of the business world as a whole, the role my business plays in my community, and the impact I have on my business as its leader,” said Carolyn Keiling, a recent student in Edison State’s Small Business Management Class.  “I was given the opportunity to step away from the everyday struggles and challenges of running a small business, get a broader view, take stock of my present circumstances and then set goals for the future.  I would urge anyone operating a small business, or considering doing so, to take advantage of the education provided at Edison State College.”

For the past 50 years Edison State College has served the local community through a range of programs including certificates, Associate and Bachelor Degrees.  This new initiative offered through the Center for Business and Entrepreneurship addresses the needs of the business community, organizations and government agencies.  In these challenging times Edison State College business professionals advise all stakeholders to review and evaluate their current methods of doing business and have an open mind to the changes needed to survive in this continuing environment. “Taking Care of Business” provides the perfect opportunity get involved.
