Edison State College professors earn  national recognition for excellence in teaching.  Professor Joyce Rollins of the School of Education at the Lee Campus and English Professor Amanda Pollitt at the Hendry/Glades Center were selected for the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) award! The two winners were chosen from more than 70 faculty nominations.

“They have exemplified their individual gifts and graces as well as and a deep and abiding commitment to excellence in their service to the students of Edison College and the community we serve,” said Dr. Kenneth Walker, District President, Edison State College.

(NISOD) is dedicated to the professional development of faculty, administrators, and staff.  NISOD works toward the continued improvement of teaching and learning, with the ultimate goal of student success.

“We are very proud of HG professor Amanda Pollitt for receiving the prestigious NISOD award,” said Dr. Robert Jones, Provost of the Hendry/Glades Center. “This award is evidence of her teaching excellence and recognition from her faculty peers. Those of us at the Hendry/Glades Center are all very aware that she spends countless extra hours with students and she often reaches out into the community as she is doing this term teaching a dual enrollment class at Clewiston High School.”

“Joyce truly deserves this award,” said Dr. Erin Harrel, Dean of the School of Education.  “Her work is outstanding and I am so proud that she has been recognized by her students and peers.”

Student’s who nominated Joyce Rollins wrote:

“She doesn’t merely instruct; she transforms her students.  She has a way of changing the way her students think about themselves, their mission in life and the students they will one day be teaching. She is a legendary teacher and I hope one day my student will feel the same way towards me.”

Since 1978 NISOD has emphasized the importance of teaching and leadership excellence in institutions of higher education. The Excellence Awards tradition is a distinct privilege of honoring so many of the world's best in higher education.
