Edison State College Collier Campus Professor Wins Book Award

Feb 7, 2011

When he’s on the Edison State College Collier Campus teaching English, adjunct professor Roger Forsythe shares his love of the literary greats with his students. Outside the classroom, that enthusiasm led to the publication of his book, “Crucible of Innocence,” and recognition as a gold medal finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards for First Novel. The worldwide annual awards  have 60 categories for independent authors and publishers to enter, culminating with a gala reception. The winners also garner attention from top New York literary agents.

For Forsythe, the book is the result of a lifetime of experiences, whose lead character is James Conrad Scott. He faces spiritual, financial and health crisis with the guidance of his best friend, John Keats.

“It’s actually an expansion of my graduate creative research project on John Keats,” said Forsythe. “I’ve basically lived the plotline and weaved narrative into the story.”

Forsythe added he’s working on several additional books, a screenplay and a stage play.

“We encourage our professors to bring real-world experiences to the classroom to help our students gain a greater understanding of the subjects that are taught,” said Dr. Jeff Allbritten, President, Edison State College Collier Campus. “We work hard to recruit top-notch professors to our campus so our students receive the best possible learning opportunities.”

The Edison State College Collier Campus, 7007 Lely Cultural Parkway, is located off Collier Boulevard, three miles north of Tamiami Trail East.
