No. Effective Summer 2016, graduation at FSW is an automatic process, streamlining the necessary steps for students and ensuring their transcripts reflect the degree or certificate earned. Students will be automatically graduated upon completing all degree requirements, and diplomas will be mailed to the address on file. Students may opt out of the automatic process with the Registrar's Office.
Yes. By opting out of auto-graduation you are indicating that you do not want your certificate or degree to be awarded and assigned to your academic record. Contact the Office of the Registrar if you wish to opt out of auto-graduation.
No, there is no charge for the Ceremony.
Please complete the Commencement Ceremony Application. All students will receive a confirmation email that includes a link to order your cap and gown.
Diplomas and certificates are mailed out 6-8 weeks after the beginning of the next semester. Please be sure that your address is updated and correct. Changes can be made by filling out the Changes of Student Data Form available in the Registrar's Office or in Advising.
Graduation processing occurs at the end of each semester, after final grades have been submitted. Posting of degrees on transcripts occurs at this time, and may take up to 4 weeks.
Graduates receive honors recognition based on their cumulative GPA at the end of the preceding semester, since all grades will not have been processed prior to the ceremony.
Honors cords for those who qualify will be available in the Bookstore and can be picked up with your cap and gown.
Baccalaureate students with a record of academic achievement may be considered for honors upon graduation. To graduate with an honors distinction, baccalaureate degree candidates must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours of upper division graded coursework at Florida SouthWestern State College and must have earned an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher. Honors designations are conferred according to the following scale and are noted on a student's diploma:
When determining honors for graduation, the GPA is not rounded up (e.g., 3.49 is not rounded up to 3.50 for graduation with an honors designation.)
Associate degree students with a record of academic achievement may be considered for honors upon graduation. To graduate with an honors distinction, associate degree candidates must have completed 25% of the coursework at Florida SouthWestern State College and must have earned an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher. Honors designations are conferred according to the following scale and are noted on a student's diploma:
Candidates who have accumulated the minimum honors GPA requirements, prior to the term of graduation, will be recognized at the commencement ceremony and will be provided with honors cords. Cadidates who will become eligible for honors after the current terms grades are recorded will not be recognized at the commencement ceremony.
Yes. All students must register to participate in the commencement ceremony using the Commencement Application form.
