Welcome to the First Year Experience
FYE Students

At Florida SouthWestern State College we value student success and therefore commit to creating a foundation for our students by encouraging the development of critical thinking skills, making the acquisition of knowledge relevant to their lives, providing them with strategies to succeed in life, and giving them opportunities in and outside of the College to apply their learning.

Faculty, staff, and administrators at Florida SouthWestern State College have designed a First Year Experience Program to connect you, the student, to the resources, tools, and programs that are essential for your success in the first year and beyond.  As you begin this exciting and sometimes overwhelming experience, it is important to know there are a number of opportunities and services available to help you make a successful transition.

One very important resource is this website. Please visit this site regularly for current information about the campus resources available to help you during your first year at Florida SouthWestern State College.

The mission of Florida SouthWestern State College’s First Year Experience (FYE) program is to provide each student with an intentional pathway to transition into collegial life by providing both the academic and co-curricular supports necessary to be successful. The goal of FYE is to help to retain First Time in College (FTIC) students and to assist them in becoming critical thinkers and self-reliant learners. This is accomplished through the completion of the Cornerstone Experience (SLS 1515) course, support from peer mentors (Peer Architects), and participation in engaging programming.
