Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School – Lee is the first opportunity of its kind for students in Lee County. All students, parents, and/or caregivers are encouraged to find out more about the many advantages of Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School- Lee Campus, our procedures and curriculum. FSWC – Lee was created to give a distinct and otherwise un available educational opportunity to the citizens of S.W. Florida. Since our inception there has been a deliberate combination of a STEM focused curriculum, Dual Enrollment for Jr. and Sr. students, and an overall approach that prioritizes actual learning over standardized testing. The net result is that FSWC – Lee has become a unique and highly desirable educational option for families who want their students to focus on academics. As a publicly funded charter school, we operate with an open enrollment policy. As a team of dedicated professionals, we continuously create and deliver compelling lessons, activities, and opportunities for students to succeed. As educators, we strive to best serve the wide range of students who attend.   • What is a Collegiate High School?
    • A collegiate high school is operated on a charter issued by the Lee County School District.  It is run by Florida SouthWestern State College.
    • The purpose of Florida SouthWestern’s Collegiate High School in Lee County is to provide a quality academic experience for high school students seeking the challenge of high academic standards, rigorous curricula, and college-level study at a small innovative high school. The four-year curriculum will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, also known as (STEM Programming).
  • Is there a cost to Collegiate High School students?
    • As a public institution, the Collegiate High School is free of charge to students. This includes free college tuition and fees, free college and high school textbooks, and free tutoring.
    • Students are expected to provide items such as paper, pencils and personal supplies.

  • What is STEM Education?
    • The teaching of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
    • According to the STEM Ed Caucus Steering Committee, US Congress,  – Our knowledge-based economy is driven by constant innovation. The foundation of innovation lies in a dynamic, motivated and well-educated workforce equipped with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills. However, the nature of our workforce and the needs of our industries have changed over time. Today, an understanding of scientific and mathematical principles, a working knowledge of computer hardware and software, and the problem solving skills developed by courses in STEM are necessary for most jobs. Therefore, STEM education is an enormous and pressing need.
    • STEM Supporters suggest, STEM Education is responsible for providing our country with three kinds of intellectual capital:
      • Scientists and engineers who will continue the research and development that is central to the economic growth of our count
      • Technologically proficient workers who are capable of dealing with the demands of a science-based, high technology workforce

  • How does the Collegiate High School differ from Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or other programs which offer college credit?
    • Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School – Lee offers study in a college environment, the unique use of technology across the curriculum, and the opportunity to earn a college degree tuition-free simultaneously with a high school diploma.
    • The Collegiate High School offers a detailed program of study that leads directly to a college degree rather than a random acquisition of college credits.
    • The Collegiate High School provides easier access to comprehensive learning support services directly related to a college-level curriculum. The school also offers a wider selection of and access to college-level courses as well as the opportunity to customize a program of study that is specific to a student’s upper division major and prerequisites.
    • The advanced subject expertise and academic resources of a college faculty and campus are a distinct advantage for Collegiate High School students.
    • Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School – Lee seniors will demonstrate mastery of high school and college level skills through a Senior Capstone Project finalized in the last semester of their senior year.
  • Who can apply?
    • Any Lee County students and parents can apply- we ask that they participate in a collegiate high school information session.
    • If there are more than 100 qualified applicants for an Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School – Lee class, selection will be by lottery.
  • How are students selected to attend Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School – Lee?
    • An enrollment lottery will take place annually.
  • What if a student doesn’t get in?
    • Students on the waiting list for admissions will receive written confirmation of their individual status. Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School – Lee Campus will begin to process applications from the waiting list as seats become available.
  • How will the high school and college curriculum/mission complement one another?
    • The collegiate high school will expand on the college’s mission of providing educational excellence within a supportive learning environment.
    • The rigorous curriculum in the high school will prepare students for their junior and senior year in a college setting.  Within a supportive learning environment, faculty and staff are committed to preparing students to be productive citizens by helping them develop academic and professional proficiency; to think logically, critically, and analytically; to communicate effectively to seek and evaluate information; and to act with sound judgment in the interest of our global community.   The STEM focus will prepare students for numerous baccalaureate programs both at Florida SouthWestern State College and nationwide.
  • Will my freshman high school student be fraternizing with college students?
    • The high school will be in its own secure building, just like a traditional high school. All visitors will have to sign in and out with the front desk. The Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School – Lee building is a stand-alone facility located on the Florida SouthWestern State College Campus.
    • Freshmen and sophomore high school students will always be escorted by faculty and administration when they are outside of the high school building.
    • Juniors and seniors will be in typical college classes with the general population of college students.
    • We have implemented a more detailed screening process of vendors and other business partners who come to our campus to ensure utmost protection for our students.
  • What kind of extracurricular activities are offered at Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School – Lee Campus?
    • Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School – Lee will introduce extracurricular activities based on the students – interest and the feasibility of the activity.
    • Students may also choose to participate in sports and activities at their home high schools. Team sports and clubs are available to ESCHS students at their district high schools.
  • What about Food Service?
    • Florida SouthWestern State College is fortunate enough to have an excellent on site food service. FSI is our food service provider.
  • What about buses and transportation?
    • Transportation will be provided to students living outside of a two mile radius from Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School – Lee Campus and within a six mile radius. In addition, several general pick-up stops will be designated along the perimeter of the bus routes for students outside of the six mile radius. Formal transportation guidelines will be posted as they become available.
