2011 Holocaust Memorial Week

Mar 17, 2011

The Dr. Talbot Spivak Holocaust Memorial Week will be held on Monday, April 4 through Friday, April 8, 2011 on the Lee Campus. This annual, week-long event includes survivor talks, lectures, films, book discussions, exhibits, and tours of a World War II era boxcar on loan from the Holocaust Museum of Southwest Florida. This year’s theme, “The Righteous,” will focus awareness on the courageous people who defended Jews and others under persecution by the Nazi regime.

The 2011 Holocaust Memorial Week includes a special presentation featuring descendants of Holocaust survivors and Nazi perpetrators called, “How the Light Gets In: Journeys of Transformation, a One by One Dialogue between Descendants of the Holocaust and the Nazi Regime,” on Monday, April 4 at 6pm in S-106/107.

Each year, Edison State College professors have encouraged students to attend Holocaust Memorial Week presentations, linked course assignments to presentations, or assigned extra credit for participating. Please encourage students to attend Holocaust Memorial Week, an event that provides a unique opportunity: interacting with Holocaust survivors.

Holocaust Memorial Week events are free and open to the public. For more information, including the 2011 Schedule of Events, go to www.edison.edu/holocaust. You also may contact Holocaust Memorial Committee Co-Chairs Rona Axelrod, JoAnn Lewin, and Jane Bigelow.
