Deborah Ellis is the acclaimed author of more than 20 books for children and adolescents, including The Breadwinner trilogy, which is focused on Afghanistan), and her newest book No Safe Place which deals with the issues of refugees and immigration. Ms. Ellis is an important voice of moral and social conscience, and her writing is lively, lucid and highly entertaining.

Ms. Ellis says of the characters she creates, "Courage interests me - when we have it, when we don't, and how we make the decision to be brave or cowardly. We have created a world in which most children live in some form of war, and I write about them to do honor to their strength and courage. I have learned that there is no such thing as ' other people's children.' The world's children are a blessing to all of us. They are also our responsibility."

Books will be available for purchase or attendees may bring their own copies.
