Charlotte Campus student wins iPad 2

Jun 28, 2011

PUNTA GORDA – Travis McCartney graduated from Edison State College with a Bachelor’s in Supervision and Management in May, and by June he was sporting a new iPad 2 compliments of the Alumni Association.

“This is the best graduation gift,” McCartney beamed while posing for a photo with his new gadget. “It blew my mind actually; I was surprised. I’ve had my eye on them for a while.”

Any spring 2011 graduate from throughout the Edison State district was eligible to win the iPad if they were one of the first 50 to join the Alumni Association. The 35-year-old Charlotte Campus student, however, figured he missed his opportunity after waiting two days after the iPad promotion was announced to join.

“By that point I actually thought it would’ve been too late, but the price was right,” McCartney said. “I just signed up for the alumni perks.”

Now McCartney is looking forward to utilizing his new iPad 2 in the next chapter of his professional career. And for just $20 a year the Port Charlotte resident will have the support of the Edison State College Alumni Association in his new endeavors.

“We couldn’t be happier for Travis,” Alumni Relations Coordinator Rio DeArmond said. “It’s always nice to reward deserving students, especially as a fellow alumnus of Edison State College. But the iPad really is just the cherry on top; with more than 30,000 alumni, joining the Alumni Association is a great way for every student to begin their professional network.”

Benefits of the Alumni Association include extensive career services, discounts on campus and throughout Southwest Florida, the Edison Connections e-newsletter and much more.
