The Nowhere Band headlines 17th annual Edison POPS at Sunset

Aug 13, 2012

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Come together with the magical music of The Beatles and celebrate education as The Nowhere Band rocks the 17th annual Edison POPS at Sunset on Saturday, Oct. 13.

The Nowhere Band, a Fort Myers-based quartet, covers the full spectrum of The Beatles’ long and varied career with period costumes and authentic instruments blended with modern lighting to create an evening of magic.

“POPS is one of those special events, when entertainment and purpose come together for a special night,” Edison State College Charlotte Campus President Dr. Patricia Land. “The concert has really come to symbolize education and the tremendous philanthropic spirit of Charlotte County. And this year POPS has the potential to be bigger than ever, as the music of The Beatles touches every generation.”

POPS is presented by the Edison State College Foundation, Inc. with all proceeds to benefit scholarships at Edison State College Charlotte Campus. More than half a million dollars has been raised by the concert.

Sun Newspapers has supported the POPS cause as the Platinum sponsor each of the 17 years. Clear Channel Media & Entertainment, Harbor Style Magazine and Palm Auto Mall are Gold sponsors. Various sponsorship levels are available and those interested in supporting the POPS cause should contact Edison State College Charlotte Campus Development Coordinator Keith Callaghan at Keith.Callaghan@edison.edu or 941-637-5604.

The 17th POPS installment features just the third different headliner in The Nowhere Band, with a string quartet to open. The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra has played 14 POPS with The BoogieMen twice headlining the program.

“With Edison State celebrating its 50th anniversary serving Southwest Florida we wanted to do something special, and once we realized 1962 also marked the first single by The Beatles it just made sense,” Callaghan said. “And I can’t say enough about The Nowhere Band; they really deliver the whole Beatles experience.”

Tickets go on sale Aug. 20 and are available at EdisonPOPS.com. Tickets also will be available at Edison State College Charlotte Campus, Sun Newspapers, Palm Auto Mall and Charlotte State Bank (Murdock, Midtown and Punta Gorda offices).

Reserved table seating is $35 per person or $350 for a table of 10, with general admission tickets $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. For more information visit EdisonPOPS.com or call 941-637-5604.
