APRIL 29, 2013 – FORT MYERS, FLA. – Manny Ohonme, founder of Samaritan’s Feet International, will serve as Edison State College’s commencement speaker during the graduation ceremony on Friday, May 3 at Germain Arena.

“Manny Ohonme’s story is proof that our beginnings do not determine our ends, and that wherever our starting point, there is the potential to achieve the highest levels of success,” said Dr. Jeff Allbritten, president, Edison State College. “But his story is not only inspirational of what we can achieve for ourselves, it’s a reminder of the importance of giving back and helping others achieve their goals. We are honored to have him as our commencement speaker.”

Ohonme started the non-profit organization in 2003 with the purpose of sharing hope with those in need by washing their feet, giving them a new pair of shoes, and helping them to believe that dreams can come true.

It was Ohonme’s own experience with a good samaritan that encouraged him to give hope to others. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, his life was changed when, at nine years old, a stranger gave him his first pair of shoes. The encounter inspired him to participate in competitive sports in Africa, and he earned a scholarship to play basketball in the United States where he attended the University of North Dakota and earned a degree in Business.

Today, Ohonme speaks all over the world, encouraging people to dream big. He has recently written a book “Sole Purpose,” and through his organization has provided more than 2.5 million pairs of shoes to needy children throughout the world.
