Edison State College Student Receives The Lynne Davis Nightingale Award

May 6, 2013

Edison State College Nursing student, Sagine Theard, received the Lynne Davis Nightingale Award.  This award was created in 2012, and honors the memory of Edison adjunct professor, Lynne Davis, who was a compassionate role model for all students who knew her.  The Lynne Davis Nightingale Award is given out twice a year at the Nurse Pinning Ceremony in May and in December.  Recipients are awarded $1000 and are selected based on their exemplary compassion.  Mark Preston, provides the funds for this award, wanting to recognize future nursing students showing the same compassion that Lynne Davis displayed in the field of nursing.

The Edison nursing faculty, along with local hospital personnel, chose Theard because she displays the most compassion and care when dealing with patients.

“Lynne was an amazing and compassionate woman,” said Preston “She believed in helping people and in relieving suffering wherever and whenever she could.  She made it her calling to attempt to comfort and raise the spirits of everyone she met.  I want her spirit to continue to help others, and that is why this award was created, to honor those who have the same compassion and zest for life that she displayed every day.”

Lynne Davis taught Obstetrics courses and made a tremendous impact during her time as a faculty member at Edison State College. Davis was a previous Edison Nursing Graduate, held a master's degree in Economics and was a certified Nurse Midwife.

Celebrating 50 years of excellence, Edison State College is Southwest Florida’s largest, most accessible and affordable institution of higher education. Proud to be tobacco-free, Edison State serves more than 24,000 students across five counties and through Edison Online.
