May 7, 2013

Graduation season is quickly approaching at Edison State College, and families across the states and internationally are looking forward to sharing this special day with one another. However, there is one pair of Edison students who are defining the true meaning of attending each other’s graduation. Wesley Ann and Wyatt Locke are a brother and sister duo, who are a year apart and will be receiving their Associate’s degrees together two weeks before their high school diplomas.  The two are seniors at the Edison Collegiate High School, who took the route of being dually enrolled at Edison Collegiate High School and Edison State College’s Charlotte Campus.

The Boca Grande, Florida natives entered Edison Collegiate High School their freshman year in 2009 with the hopes of achieving the success of receiving an AA while working on a high school diploma. The two explained how they are from a hard- working family that values education and hard work, which in turn has helped them become the successful kids that they are today.

Wesley Ann, who has been accepted in to the University of Florida-where she will begin in Fall 2013 as an Arts and Humanities buff, expressed how she’s always embraced her “artsy” side as a dancer and acting in plays with the Royal Palm Theatre in Boca Grande. Meanwhile, Wyatt who will be attending the University of South Florida in the fall, will take the business route and will be able to excel if he decides to pursue his Master’s degree, while working on his Bachelor’s degree.

The Locke kids, whose personalities are as bright as their smiles, stated how they are looking forward to attending school separately, but will miss each other’s company while off on their educational endeavors.

On May 3, 2013, Edison State College held its first college-wide graduation at Germain Arena at 6:30 p.m., where Wesley and Wyatt walked off the stage with the Associate’s degrees that will put them ahead of other college students, and with a head start on a lifetime of success.
