May 17, 2013

As communications has become a staple in the 21st century, there is one professor at Edison State College who is taking it to a whole new level. Tonia East, a communications instructor on the Charlotte Campus, will be co-presenting with her Doctoral Chair, Dr. Yuki  Fujioka,  "The Perceived Source Bias and Race: The Influence of Mainstream versus Ethnic Media on Audience Responses to HIV/AIDS New Coverage" in London, England from June 17-21.

East, who has been at Edison for the past year, has been enjoying her experience at the college and her numerous encounters with the warm welcoming staff and students. In addition to the experience of presenting her research, she will be receiving her Ph.D. in Public Communications in the next year. She feels that this experience has been very eye opening and uplifting.

“The great thing about health communication research is the opportunity impact the quality of life for real people. When people can better understand and apply health information, they can make better decisions about their health” East said.
