Edison State College Honored Memorial Day

May 28, 2013

Edison State College Veteran Affairs office hosted a Pre-Memorial Day Lunch Tuesday, May 21.  Veterans, students, faculty and staff honored those who have, and currently, serve our nation with a ceremonial lunch.

The Korean War Veterans presented a $1,000 check to Edison State College President, Dr. Jeffery Allbritten, to assist in college scholarships for local students.  Following the check presentation, local ROTC and the United States Army offered ceremonial presentations of the flags, and a local veteran played Taps.  Additionally, the VA Bus was on site to assist veterans, while musical entertainment was provided.

“We were so honored to host this event to thank all of those who serve our nation,” said Denise Thompson, Veterans Affairs Specialist for Edison State College.  “It was wonderful to see the students attend this event to celebrate the veterans and their sacrifice for our freedoms.”

Celebrating 50 years of excellence, Edison State College is Southwest Florida’s largest, most accessible and affordable institution of higher education. Proud to be tobacco-free, Edison State serves more than 24,000 students across five counties and through Edison Online.
