Edison State College Offers Activities to Highlight Mental Illness Awareness Week - October 7 through October 11

Edison State College will offer multiple events and activities to discuss Mental Illness Awareness.  Each year, Mental Illness Awareness takes place during the first week in October.  Starting on October 7, Edison State College in Fort Myers will offer a variety of lectures and activities.

“Mental illnesses are medical conditions that can disrupt a person’s thinking, feeling, moods, relationships, and the ability to adjust to change and hard times,” said Stacey Brown, Program Director of the Human Services Program at Edison State College School of Health Professions. 

Edison State College’s planned activities during Mental Illness Awareness Week include:  

MONDAY, October 7 – “Stomp Out the Stigma Day”

10:00 – 11:00 – “Mental Illness Facts:  What You Need to Know” – Building A, Room 105

1:00 – 2:00 – “ADHD:  What It Is and What It Isn’t” – Building N, Room 202

2:00 – 3:00 – “Understanding the Anxious Mind” – Building N, Room 202

2:00 – 3:00 – “How Do You Know When Someone is In Crisis?” – Building U, Room 219

TUESDAY, October 8th

1:00 – 2:00 – “Dating and Mating:  What’s Hot and What’s Not” – Building N, Room 202

1:00 – 2:00 – “AIDE (Approach, Initiate, Discuss, Engage):  An Emergency Mental Health Intervention for Suicidal Persons” – Building U, Room 220
