Edison Collegiate High School (ECHS) Lee is happy to announce that sophomore Marissa Lorenzo was elected as the state president for the Florida Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (FAEOPP) Student government.   Lorenzo is a member of Edison State College’s Upward Bound program, and attended a student leadership conference where she and other members were able to network with students across the state in similar college programs.

“We are proud of Marissa for her hard work and participation in student leadership,” said Dr. Brian Botts, Principal of ECHS Lee.  “She is a great role model for other students, and works hard to create opportunities for students in her role as President.”

Lorenzo’s responsibilities in her role as president include coordinating the FAEOPP Summer Olympics, which will be held at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) this year.  As part of the Summer Olympics, Lorenzo will also coordinate a state-wide charitable effort to collect food items for a non-profit organization in need in Tallahassee, where the events will take place.   She also creates additional opportunities that occur during the FAEOPP conference and Summer Olympics.  During her term as president, she coordinates with other student leaders regarding policies and activities for FAEOPP, while also comparing programs and ideas with other colleges.

“Participating in this organization is so beneficial,” said Lorenzo.  “We are able to network with other students and learn about programs that could be utilized here at Edison, and it builds confidence as well.”

The Edison State College Upward Bound Program is a college preparatory program designed to motivate and prepare students for the successful pursuit of a four-year college education.
