Edison State College Professor Elected to Board of State Association

Edison State College professor, Elizabeth Whitmer, RHIT, ADHI-F has been elected to a two year team on the Board of Directors for the Florida Health Information Management Association (FHIMA).  Whitmer has been with the college for three years, and teaches Health Information Technology. 

“We know that Professor Whitmer will be an excellent member of the FHIMA Board,” said Deborah Howard, RHIA, CCS, Health Information Technology Program Director.  “Her passion and skills in this career field are apparent in the day to day teaching and volunteering that she does with Health Information Technology events and activities.”

Professor Whitmer will be working with the FHIMA Board of Directors and various committee members to improve services to the membership and increase opportunities for students as they pursue their education in Health Information Management. Whitmer will assist in guiding the field during this time while the healthcare industry transitions from paper to electronic health records, implements new regulatory demands and determines reimbursement challenges.

The FHIMA mission is “To support and promote health information management professionals by advancing best practices through education, technology, professional development, leadership, advocacy, and communication.” The association exists to promote high quality health care through strong health data information management and governance practices and principles. Members look to the state association for education, direction and support in the profession of health information management.
