Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union Establishes Edison College Scholarship

Feb 12, 2008

The Edison College Foundation, Inc. has received a gift of $10,000 from Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union [FCU], Suncoast for Kids Foundation, to establish an endowed scholarship fund. The donation is eligible for a dollar-for-dollar State matching program, which will increase the initial endowment to $20,000.

The gift was made possible through the Suncoast for Schools Rewards Check Card, which provides five cents for public schools each time a member uses the card for a signature-based credit transaction rather than a PIN. All money raised through this program is being donated for school programs and scholarships in the 15 Florida counties served by the Suncoast Schools FCU, based on the number of signature transactions by members residing in the respective counties.

"We are proud to support education, and this program will help us give exponentially in the communities that we serve," said Tom Dorety, president and CEO of Suncoast Schools FCU. "The Suncoast for Schools Rewards Check Card gives members an opportunity to support public schools simply by virtue of their relationship with the credit union."

Students at any campus of Edison College may apply for the annual scholarship award. College employees, students, and their families are eligible for credit union membership.

"On behalf of the Suncoast for Kids Foundation future scholarship recipients, we thank Suncoast Schools Credit Union for helping students in financial need achieve their higher education goals," said Tracey Galloway, District Director of Development for Edison College.
