Florida SouthWestern State College Professor Recognized as Educator of the Year

Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) professor, Elizabeth Whitmer, RHIT, ADHI-F has been recognized as the Educator of the Year by the Florida Health Information Management Association (FHIMA).  Whitmer has been with the college for three years, and teaches Health Information Technology.  She was honored during the award ceremony at the FHIMA annual convention in Orlando, Florida on July 15. 

“We are thrilled that Professor Whitmer has received this honor,” said Marie A. Collins, RDH, MS, EdD Dean, School of Health Professions at FSW.  “Professor Whitmer offers excellent learning opportunities for her students and really has a passion for helping others advance in this field.  She has a plethora of experience having worked in both inpatient and outpatient facilities.”

“Elizabeth is known by her students and leaders in the Florida Health Information Management profession for her knowledge and enthusiasm,” said Deborah Howard, MA, RHIA, CCS, Health Information Technology Program Director at FSW.

Elizabeth A. Whitmer, RHIT, AHDI-F is a Registered Health Information Technician and a recognized Fellow of the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity. She has been active in the health care field for the past 22 years. Whitmer is an avid member of the American Health Information Management Association and current board director for the Florida Health Information Management Association.  Additionally she is an active member of the Southwest Florida Health Information Management Association.
