President Walker Invited to Join CEPA Advisory Board

Feb 24, 2009

Edison State College President Kenneth Walker has accepted an invitation to serve on the prestigious Center for Educational Performance and Accountability (CEPA) Advisory Board.

CEPA is a group within the Florida TaxWatch Research Institute, Inc.  The group’s mission is to provide the citizens and public officials of Florida with high quality, independent research and education on a variety of issues.  Florida TaxWatch is a nonpartisan, nonprofit government watchdog and taxpayer research institute.  It is the only statewide organization devoted entirely to Florida taxing and spending policies.

“Throughout my career in higher education, I have been a strong advocate for applying sound business policies and practices coupled with an entrepreneurial spirit in order to assure accountability,” said President Walker.  “I look forward to a valuable learning experience.”

CEPA was born from the acknowledgement of two realities: 1) the growing portion of education funding in the state budget and, 2) the profound fiscal and economic impact that quality PreK-20 education has on Florida’s competitiveness nationally and internationally. CEPA conducts research, issues publications, and engages in meaningful actions to promote exemplary student achievement at all levels within a cost effective environment.

CEPA’s work is overseen by an Advisory Board comprised of numerous business leaders and educational experts.  It conducts activities through four integrated elements:  applied research, policy influence, citizen education, and collaborative outreach.  Participation on the CEPA Advisory Board is by invitation only.
