Naples, FL – March 29, 2010

On Saturday, March 27, The Edison State College Collier Campus hosted the 2nd Annual GreenFest Expo, the only “Green Living” festival in Collier County. The event brought together businesses and organizations to share innovative products and services that are healthy, resource conserving, and good for the economy with the Southwest Florida Community. The GreenFest Expo featured over 55 exhibitors, up from 40 in 2009.  Over one-thousand SWFL community members attended the event, many arriving via eco-friendly transport such as: hybrid vehicle, bicycle, public transport, carpool, and on foot.

The event was opened by the music of local favorites, The Wholetones. Attendees were treated to seminars by field experts on a variety of environmental topics as well as complimentary gifts such as reusable tote bags and tree seedlings, intended as a carbon offset for the event. Children experienced a wide array of activities designed to both educate and entertain such as: Plant-a-Seed pots, Pine Cone Bird Feeders, touchable exhibits from The Conservancy and Rookery Bay National Estuarine Reserve, face painting, an art station, and the opportunity to interact with a baby alligator.  Exhibits included alternative transportation, such as the Ford Fusion Hybrid courtesy of Tamiami Ford, alternative energy sources, eco-friendly home building products, nontoxic household products, organic clothing, fresh and natural foods, as well as yard and garden techniques.

“The record attendance at today’s event is proof that environmental solutions are becoming more important to this community,” said GreenFest Expo coordinator Dr. Kirk Otto.  “Edison State College is committed to serving as a community resource on environmental sustainability.”
