Edison to host free Energy Lecture Series

PUNTA GORDA – Edison State College Charlotte Campus will host world-renowned energy expert Thomas Drolet for a three-part Energy Lecture Series beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16.

 

The lecture series is free to the public thanks to the James and Barbara Moore Chair (Science). The endowment is designed to enhance science education at Edison State College. Each of the three 2-hour lectures will be held in the Edison State auditorium.

 

Drolet, an Englewood resident, has spent 41 years working in nearly all phases of energy. He has served as president and CEO of Ontario Hydro International, managing director of American Electric Power Canada and vice president of international business for DTE Energy Technologies, among others. Drolet currently provides international consulting in nuclear and renewable energy in the US, Nicaragua, Europe and China.

 

Drolet has a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Royal Military College in Canada, a Master’s of Science in Chemical Engineering and a DIC from Imperial College, University of London, England. He also earned an International Business certificate from the University of Western Ontario.

 

Part I of the lecture series – Where have we come from? Where are we now? – is an exploration of the historical connection between the increase in wealth of the average individual and the subsequent ever-increasing demand for energy. The lecture includes a general review of the worldwide energy supply system in place today.

 

Part II – What is wrong with today’s energy picture? – is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14. The lecture focuses on the energy needs of developed and developing countries by highlighting various strategies, successful or not, being used throughout the world.

 

Part III – Where can we go to break current energy trends? – is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27. The final lecture in the series deals with the Asymmetry Principle, conservation through technology innovation, and leadership and job opportunities for the current and next generations.
