A Time to Listen. A Time For Reflection.

This is truly a time of reflection - to truly evaluate what we value and what we hold in our hearts. At Florida SouthWestern State College, we believe in equity and opportunity for all. We have fought for educational equity for over 50 years, and we will keep fighting. We fight for every student to have the opportunity to change their circumstances, change careers and of course chase their dreams. No matter your race, religion, gender, orientation, or nationality, you will always be a welcomed and equal member of this FSW family.

As a college, we do encourage free speech and the spirited exchange of ideas and viewpoints. However, we do not tolerate racism on any campus, in any classroom, or on any social media platform. Beyond the founding principal that is freedom of speech, there is also a pressing responsibility and urgent need to listen. Those now expressing long-held frustrations need to be heard.

I encourage all of us to take the time to re-evaluate how we conduct ourselves and how we treat each other. Listen, learn, and make a difference for all. This is what a college is all about.

Sincerely,

Jeff Allbritten, President
