Previte Scholarship Leads to Nursing Careers
Frank and Ellen Previte's philanthropy and FSW's partnership with NCH Healthcare System have launched a scholarship program in Ellen's honor for FSW students. The opportunity provides deserving FSW nursing students with financial resources and immediate employment upon commencement.
Inspired by Ellen’s career as a nurse, the Prevites established the Ellen Nolan Previte Nursing Scholarship to support aspiring nurses and help meet the growing need for compassionate, well-trained RNs in Southwest Florida.
The first Previte Scholar cohort received last-mile scholarships and will graduate in May. Their volunteer service and clinicals will lead to full-time nursing positions with NHC this summer.
Bentley Foundation Supports Aspiring First Responders
The Bentley Foundation Inc. launched a new grant program to support FSW students training as firefighters and emergency medical technicians. The funding will provide scholarships. FSW operates the firefighter program through a partnership with the North Collier Fire Control and Rescue District’s Fire Academy.
A total of 12 scholarships are expected to be awarded this summer. Bentley Foundation President Bill Welbourn said the new initiative honors the advanced life support services provided by area firefighters and EMS personnel and supports those pursuing careers in emergency response.
FSW’s program with the North Collier Fire Training Center earned the 2025 Florida Fire Service Training and Education Provider of the Year award in January. The honor marks the third time the program received this award, following previous recognitions in 2015 and 2018. The achievement is a direct result of the program's commitment to student success and the quality of instruction. In 2025, FSW graduated 71 firefighter students, equipping them to serve their communities effectively.

Board Works to Create Opportunities for Future Entrepreneurs

In December, FSW's Daveler Entrepreneurship Institute hosted its inaugural advisory board meeting, also featuring area business leaders, faculty, staff, and students. Highlights included an overview of the first semester of the new AS in Entrepreneurship program, enrollment data, key milestones, and future plans.
Chaired by philanthropist, entrepreneur and author Sandy Stilwell Youngquist, who helped FSW create its world-class School of Nursing simulation center featuring the US’s first juvenile Down Syndrome simulation manikin, the event recognized the group’s significance in creating opportunities for students through coursework, mentorships and partnerships.
The Daveler Entrepreneurship Institute and the Daveler Innovation Center are supported by $3.5 million in gifts from the Frank G. Daveler Foundation. Daveler Foundation advisors, West McCann, Susan McManus and Janice Page were recognized for their instrumental guidance and support.
Schulze Foundation Receives Impact Award
FSW recently recognized the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation with a Community Impact award. With its cumulative giving of $1.9 million, the Schulze Foundation, a supporter of FSW for a decade, has transformed educational access, strengthened regional workforce pipelines, and improved quality of life across Southwest Florida.
Through vision, generosity, and a deep understanding of community needs, the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation has strengthened FSW, empowered thousands of students, and advanced the economic vitality of Southwest Florida.

Lee Health Partnership Supports Nurses
FSW and Lee Health, Southwest Florida’s largest system, continue their long-standing partnership to address the persistent nursing shortage with a $199,200 donation. Lee Health’s investment strengthens the nursing pipeline through scholarships that cover NCLEX live review, exam fees and license costs.
Additional support enhances simulation training and faculty professional development, preparing students for clinical practice and their first day as a registered nurse.
