FSW to Screen Ted Riederer’s International Documentary ‘NEVER RECORDS’

Apr 3, 2015

The next ArtSPEAK@FSW lecture, presented inside of the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery at Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW), will feature New York-based artist and musician Ted Riederer on April 9 from 6-8 p.m.

The event is open to the public and free of charge. Limited seating in the gallery is first-come, first serve.

Riederer will present a one-night only screening of his feature length documentary NEVER RECORDS: YOU ARE NOT LISTENING (directed by Jason Wyche), followed by his new solo performance (“Drums & Roses”) inspired by Dave Muller’s current installation in the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery.

NEVER RECORDS: YOU ARE NOT LISTENING explores the power of art and music to unite, educate, and uplift a community. Shot on location in Northern Ireland and London, England, and featuring performances by some of the United Kingdom’s most talented musicians, it earned the Best of Fest award at the Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival in 2013 and garnered critical acclaim from the 2013 RxSM Underground Film Expo and CBGB Film Festival.

The film follows Riederer as he travels the world looking to musically unite communities through his NEVER RECORDS project.

“A self-proclaimed ‘one-time refugee from punk rock and sometime band member (as front man for the group Thumper),’ Ted Riederer has ambled artistically from the Americas to the Antipodes while creating a catalyst for social interaction and the artistic expression of others through this project,” said Jade Dellinger, director of the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery.

Stephen McCauley of BBC Radio/UK said that the artist’s efforts have “plugged people back into why music was important in the first place.”

Past ArtSPEAK@FSW lecturers have included experimental performance artist Laurie Anderson, cultural critic and writer Dave Hickey, and sculptor Keith Edmier.

“FSW is honored to welcome internationally celebrated artist and musician Ted Riederer,” said FSW President Jeff Allbritten. “As our students branch out into the world they will have an easier time understanding cultural differences thanks to the College’s focus on critical thinking and this type of phenomenal programming.”

About the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery:

The Bob Rauschenberg Gallery was founded as The Gallery of Fine Art in 1979 on the Lee County campus of Florida SouthWestern State College/FSW (then Edison Community College). On June 4th 2004 the Gallery of Fine Art was renamed the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery, to honor and commemorate our long time association and friendship with the artist. Over more than three decades until his death, the Gallery worked closely with Rauschenberg to present world premiere exhibitions including multiple installations of the ¼ Mile or Two Furlong Piece.  The artist insisted on naming the space the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery (versus the “Robert Rauschenberg Gallery”) as it was consistent with the intimate, informal relationship he maintained with both our local Southwest Florida community and FSW.
