Catanzarite Named FSW Collegiate High School - Charlotte Principal

Jul 14, 2015

Across the region, high school hallways are quiet. Students are enjoying their summer vacation from classes, tests and getting up early. Matt Catanzarite is a familiar face, having spent the past five years as assistant principal at Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School, Charlotte. Starting this fall, however, he takes the reigns as the school’s principal.

“Having been here since we first opened our doors, I’ve had the chance to really build relationships with our faculty and staff,” said Catanzarite. “Our students impress me every year with their talents, skills and enthusiasm. I’m looking forward to continuing our history of excellence, not only how we rank statewide in testing, but more importantly on giving our students the tools they need to succeed in life.”

Earlier in 2015 when the Florida Department of Education released its Top Ten high schools, FSWC Charlotte ranked eighth with a score of 1461 out of 1600. FSW’s School of Education oversees both the Charlotte and Lee high schools. FSWC Lee ranked fifth with a score of 1483 out of 1600.

Catanzarite’s education career spans nearly 15 years, ranging from teaching social studies and world history at Port Charlotte High School to teaching East-West Heritage Honors at then Edison Collegiate High School, Charlotte. He was named assistant principal of the collegiate high school in 2010.

He earned his bachelor of arts degree in education and his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. While at North Florida, he also served as a graduate assistant basketball coach and he played basketball for North Florida as an undergrad. He is working towards his doctorate in education leadership from Florida Southern College in Lakeland. He holds a State of Florida Professional Educator’s Certificate and is also certified in educational leadership for all grades, social science for grades 6-12 and English for grades 6-12.

FSWC Charlotte is designed to provide students of all ability levels an opportunity to graduate with both a high school degree and an Associate of Arts (AA) degree. The teaching methods used provide students an engaging learning environment and opportunities to receive additional educational resources through the high school and Florida SouthWestern State College.
