FSW Respiratory Care Program Receives National Award

Sep 15, 2015

September 15, 2015 – FORT MYERS, FLA – Florida SouthWestern State College’s (FSW) Respiratory Care program recently accepted the Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). Professors Sindee Karpel and Jean Newberry attended the national conference in Phoenix, Arizona and accepted the award on behalf of the program. The Associate of Science in Respiratory Care is one of eleven health career degrees offered in the FSW School of Health Professions.

FSW’s program was honored because more than 90 percent of its respiratory care graduates, from 2012-2014, earned the Registered Respiratory Therapist certification. Only 63 out of 440 Respiratory Care programs in the nation received this prestigious recognition.

“Innovative teaching styles, engaging clinical experiences, and dedicated faculty are the primary reasons our graduates enjoy such success,” said Jeff Davis, Program Director of FSW Respiratory Care and Cardiovascular Technology Programs. “This award is due to the extraordinary efforts of Dr. Jeffrey Elsberry, Associate Dean Cardiopulmonary & Emergency Care, and professors Newberry and Karpel.”

Success with the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification and with job placement throughout Southwest Florida continues with the most recent graduating Class of 2015.
