Oct 12, 2018

OCTOBER 12, 2018 – PUNTA GORDA, FLA – Charlotte County is one step closer to having its own pickleball complex at Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW). PicklePlex of Punta Gorda at FSW recently signed a lease with FSW to begin construction on the first 16 courts.

“FSW looks forward to becoming the home of the PicklePlex of Punta Gorda, and we are happy the FSW Charlotte Campus is able to provide the space needed to bring PicklePlex to life,” said Keith Callaghan, assistant vice president, Economic Development and External Affairs. “We anticipate this will bring excitement to our campus, exposing our students and the local community to the sport, and also bring local residents to our campus, including some who may have lived here 20 or 30 years but have never seen it.”

In addition to being a space where the community and students can enjoy the sport, PicklePlex of Punta Gorda at FSW also anticipates it will have a positive economic impact on Punta Gorda.

“The PicklePlex plans on hosting several tournaments and pickleball events that will increase tourism and positively impact the economy of Charlotte County,” said Gloria Reilly, secretary and treasurer, PicklePlex of Punta Gorda at FSW. “We are now one step closer to making this dream a reality.”

The first 16 courts are scheduled to be completed in early 2019.
