FSW Professor Selected as Top Professor of the Year in Health Information Technology

Sep 11, 2019

SEPTEMBER 10, 2019 – FORT MYERS, FLA – Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) Health Information Technology Professor Elizabeth Whitmer has been named as Top Professor of the Year in Health Information Technology by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).

Whitmer was selected for the award for her contributions to students and professionals in the Health Information Technology field. She created “ROAR: Root Operation App Rescue,” a smartphone app for medical coding students, and patented the My Healthcare Coder keyboard, a specially-designed, user-friendly keyboard that includes only the 45 keys that healthcare coders use to convert clinical documentation.

“Accurate documentation can lead to better, more effective patient care,” Whitmer said. “Documentation in the patient's record is integral to accurate coding. An error in the coding can result in the claim being denied and lost revenue. These tools can help provide more detailed information to other health care providers performing subsequent care or services on patients.”

The International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) is an international boutique networking organization who handpicks the world’s finest, most prestigious top professionals from different industries.  These top professionals are given an opportunity to collaborate, share their ideas, be keynote speakers and to help influence others in their fields.
