FSW Theatre Program Presents the “The Seagull” at the Black Box Theatre

Oct 23, 2019

OCTOBER 22, 2019 – FORT MYERS, FLA – Florida SouthWestern State College’s (FSW) Theatre program presents “The Seagull,” opening at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7 in the FSW Black Box Theatre, Building L-119, 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers.

“The Seagull,” the first of Anton Chekhov’s four major plays, is set at a country estate, where a group of friends and relations have gathered to see the first performance of an experimental play by the aspiring young writer, Konstantin. Acting in the play is the young and beautiful object of Konstantin’s affection, Nina. In the audience are Konstantin’s femme fatale mother, a celebrated actress, and her lover, the famous novelist Trigorin. The presence of such luminaries not only disrupts the performance, but ultimately, the lives of everyone present. Through its exploration of the romantic and artistic conflicts of its four main characters, the play examines the unquenchable human desire to live an extraordinary life and suggests that the line between greatness and mediocrity is perilously thin.

Performances run Nov. 7-9 and Nov. 14-16 beginning at 8 p.m. with an additional matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10. Tickets are $10 and are available at
